The Daks

Not only are Daks strong and clever, but they fit into most overhead compartments, too! One of the few little races of Aryneth, the Daks were created by Firea to initially be slaves in his fiery mines below Kassir. However, a few of the other gods didn't particularly like the idea, and, after a severe scolding, Firea decided to give them their freedom. Since created with the idea of hard work for endless hours in the trenches of a mine, many Dak have difficulty fending off their need to be chipping away at stone. Several others have reveled in their freedom from such a degrading life and make it a point to have boisterous lives of success as a scholar or other pursuits involving the "Upper World." This has caused a bit of tension amongst the Dak, between those who vie for their natural purpose and those who think they should utilize what the gods had given them. "Ground-dwellers" seem to look on "Light-lovers" with disdain, and vice versa.

Daks can live anywhere in Aryneth, although most avoid Kassir, finding the painful thoughts of their ancestors enslaved beneath the dunes too hard to handle. They particularly thrive in mountainous regions, where the ore is rich and the travelers heavy, since they do make rather shrewd and clever merchants.

A wide range of occupations and classes are open to the Dak, but they do make clumsy ana'aek and faulty Ma'aia'aik. It's also hard for them to use bows and staffs, although they are quite good at manipulating Maja, especially Blue and Brown.
