The legends have been told in taverns all over Aryneth, of a strange race of punished Dri'in bound to servitude to whomever finds their crystal amulets. But are the legends of ak'djnn true? Aren't all Arynethian legends? The ak'djnn, assumed to be particularly naughty Dri'in that displeased the gods so much that they had to punish them viscously. They took two crystals. One was imbedded into the accused's throat, and the other attached to an unbreakable string. The necklace bound the ak'djnn to whoever wore it, to utilize their powers of teleportation, manipulation, and illusion to their master's will. When no one possessed their respective necklace, the ak'djnn must remain dormant in a Nexus, the same void thought to be inhabited by the gods since their banishment. Since so many years have passed since the Ages of Creation and Legend, very few ak'djnn exist, for they managed to break their enchantments and return to being Dri'in. Should an ak'djnn ever decide to give themselves to any mortal creature of Aryneth and partake in intercourse, they lose all their powers, but they also lose their confinement to the crystals. It is also rumored that Majani can create their own ak'djnn, but there is little support or evidence to this idea.
With their animal-like noses and pointed ears, the ak'djnn resemble Dri'in in most respects except for one factor. Instead of their ear-tips matching their region of origin, an ak'djnn's ear tips match the colour of their hair, which comes in many arrays of colour, especially unnatural shades, such as green, purple, or blue.
Ak'djnn crystal necklaces are probably scattered all around Aryneth. It just takes an effort to find one. Meanwhile, the ak'djnn remain in their Nexus, always waiting for someone to claim them.
As long as they are bound to their fate, an ak'djnn can be nothing more than an ak'djnn.
